Every Vendor Question Answered

Questions Vendors Ask Before They List

Everything we'd cover on a call. If your question isn't here, reply to any email from our team and you'll get a straight answer the same day.

The audience
Who's going to see my page?

Residential contractors, and they arrive from more directions than most vendors expect.

Start with the audience we own. Contractor Coalition is a private community of 13,900+ residential contractors that our team runs. Painters, roofers, remodelers, concrete and epoxy, fencing, siding, outdoor living, and pools. When somebody in there asks who to use for your category, your page is what gets linked. That's the most direct source, and it's the reason this directory isn't starting from zero.

It's a long way from the only one, though. VendorRack runs more than 250 indexed pages: every vendor listing, the category pages, and a library of buying guides and articles written for contractors who are actively shopping. Your page is built to turn up for the guy typing your category into Google at eleven at night.

AI search is the one we get asked about most, and we built for it on purpose. Every listing publishes structured data, and our robots file openly welcomes GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, and Google's AI crawler. When a contractor asks an assistant which vendors serve his trade, we want your listing in that answer.

Then there's the traffic our team points at the directory every month through social, our email list, and paid ads aimed squarely at residential contractors.

And there's the directory itself. Contractors browse a category, run a search, or land on you from a guide or another listing that touches what you sell.

One straight note so nothing here reads like a promise. We won't hand you a visitor count, because that's the easiest number in this industry to inflate. Drop your own tracking link into the signup form and watch it in your own analytics instead.

How big are these companies?

Most run $750K to $3M a year. That's the range where a contractor has real budget and still signs off on purchases himself, so nothing has to survive a procurement review.

Is the community actually active?

Daily. Members ask which CRM to use, who to call about financing, which supplier shorted them, and which vendor to steer clear of.

That thread is where your category actually gets decided. It's a good conversation to be part of.

Where are these contractors?

Across the United States.

How much traffic does VendorRack get?

Fair question, and you've probably been handed a very confident number by somebody else already.

We don't publish traffic estimates. Directory traffic is the easiest figure in this industry to inflate, and we'd rather not ask you to take our word for anything.

Here's what we can point at instead. Your page sits in front of Contractor Coalition, a private community of 13,900+ residential contractors that our team owns and runs. That audience isn't rented and it isn't bought. We also run search, AI search, and paid ads aimed at the same contractors.

And here's what we'd actually suggest. Put your own tracking link in the signup form. We'll use it everywhere on your page, so the numbers land in the analytics you already trust instead of in a report we hand you. You'll know what this is worth without having to believe us.

Who is VendorRack a bad fit for?

If you sell to commercial GCs, production homebuilders, or industrial, this isn't your crowd.

We'd rather tell you that today than take your money for a year and watch it go nowhere. If you're not sure where you land, ask us and we'll give you a straight read.

Getting found
How do contractors find my page?

Five ways, and they compound.

Browsing your category in the directory. Running a search on the site. Following a link from the community when your category comes up. Landing from Google or Bing on one of our vendor pages, category pages, or buying guides. And increasingly, being handed your name by an AI assistant that read the listing.

The last one is newer than the rest and it's growing fast, which is why every listing ships with structured data and our robots file welcomes the AI crawlers by name.

What are the categories?

Fourteen, and each one is a decision a contractor has to make: Insurance, Software & Technology, Financing & Lending, Marketing & Lead Gen, Accounting & Bookkeeping, Legal & Compliance, Equipment & Tool Rental, Supply & Materials, Fleet & Vehicle, HR & Staffing, Training & Certification, Safety & Compliance, Communication & Scheduling, and Payment Processing.

Which category will I be in?

Whichever one your buyer looks in. If you fit more than one, tell us and we'll put you where a contractor would actually go looking.

How many vendors are listed?

Over 200 across the 14 categories.

Are my competitors already on there?

Probably, yes. Most of them are free listings with a name, a logo, and a single line of description.

That's the bar a built-out page is clearing, which is usually good news for whoever builds one first.

What you get
What does a free listing include?

Your name, a short description, one image, and a link to your site. It's how most of the directory looks.

What does Professional add?

Placement above every free and unclaimed listing in your category, priority in directory search, a photo and video gallery, contractor testimonials, your member deal, a verified vendor badge, and lead capture that routes inquiries to your team by email and text.

What's wrong with staying free?

Nothing at all. It just doesn't do much heavy lifting.

A free listing tells a contractor you exist. A built-out page tells him whether you're worth calling, and that's the decision he's actually sitting there making.

Do you show testimonials?

Yes. Your page includes testimonials from contractors who use your product. Our team pulls them from your existing materials and lays them out so a contractor reading your page sees what other contractors said about you.

Your page
Who builds it?

Our team. We write the copy for a contractor audience, pull your photos and video, lay out your screenshots, and draft the member offer.

How long does it take?

We build it within one business day of getting your details.

Do I see it before it goes live?

Yes. Nothing publishes without your approval, and there's no limit on revisions before launch.

What if I don't like what you wrote?

Tell us what's off and we'll rewrite it. You know your buyer better than we do, and we'd rather hear it before launch than have you quietly regret the page.

Can I change it after it's live?

Email us what you want changed and we'll take care of it. No dashboard to learn, no ticket queue, no release cycle to wait on.

Is there a limit on how often I can change it?

No.

What do you need from me?

Your logo, photos, video or a demo, your best product screenshots, anything you want emphasized, and your member deal if you have one. If you'd rather we pull it from your site, say so and we'll handle it.

What if I don't have good photos?

Not a problem. We'll pull what we need from your site and build the page around it.

Plenty of vendors send us nothing at all and their pages still come out looking sharp.

Can I use my own copy?

Yes. Send it and we'll use it. Most vendors let us write it, because copy that converts a contractor reads differently than copy written for a general B2B audience.

Can I list more than one product or brand?

Yes. Each product gets its own page and its own listing.

Can an agency list on behalf of a client?

Yes.

Leads
How do inquiries reach me?

The moment a contractor submits the form on your page, it goes to whoever you name, by email and text. Nothing sits in a queue waiting for you to log in and find it.

Can I route leads to more than one person?

Yes. Tell us who should get them.

Do you sell my leads to anyone else?

No. An inquiry submitted on your page goes to you and nobody else.

We're not in the lead resale business, and a contractor who fills out your form is not a contact we go shop around.

Do you charge per lead?

No. The listing price is the price, whether you get one inquiry or fifty.

Can I use UTM parameters?

Yes. Whatever link you give us is the link we use.

Can I offer a member deal?

Yes, and it's the single biggest thing you control. It's what shows up in front of the community. A real discount for members outperforms a generic listing every time.

Fairness
Is ranking pay to play?

Paying moves you above the free and unclaimed listings in your category. That's the whole of what money buys here.

It doesn't change a word of what a contractor reads about your competitors, and it doesn't buy you a better write-up than anyone else gets.

Is the directory free for contractors?

Always. Contractors never pay, never hit a signup wall, and never get their contact information sold. Vendors fund the directory.

Pricing and billing
What does it cost?

Professional is $79 a month or $790 a year. Featured is $199 a month or $1,990 a year. Annual works out to two months free.

Is there a setup fee?

No. The page build is included at every paid tier.

Is there a contract?

No. Month to month, or annual if you want the discount.

Do new listings get a trial?

New paid listings start with the first two months free. Normal billing begins after that.

How am I billed?

By card, on the same date every month or year.

We know some companies would rather cut a check or push it through AP, and we can't do that today. Keeping billing on one rail is a real part of how this stays $79 instead of $400.

Why do you need a card at signup?

The card is what starts the listing. It's how the account exists in the first place.

It also lets billing pick up quietly when your free months end, so your page never goes dark while somebody hunts down a payment method.

Can I switch tiers?

Yes, up or down, any time. Email us.

How do I cancel?

Email us and it's done. Cancelling stops future renewals and your page stays live through the end of the period you've already paid for.

Do you refund?

Payments are non-refundable except where the law says otherwise, and the free intro period is exactly why.

You get a real look at what the listing does for you before a dollar moves. If it isn't earning its keep by then, cancel and there are no hard feelings.

Will the price go up?

If pricing changes it applies to your next billing period and you get notice first. Existing terms don't change mid-period.
